Hybrid exhibition in public and digital space

Hybrid exhibition in public and digital space present textile stories written from around the world and take place as part of the BIEN 2021, the Textile Art Biennial.

The first exhibition we are presenting does not go far, it is dedicated to the top creativity of textile designers from Škofja Loka.

Kreativnice are Lili Pajntar, Nina Vastl Štefe, Ladka Peneš, Silva Horvat, Anja Musek

The photos were taken in the former Šešir factory Škofja Loka.

The author of the photos is Jana Jocif

The exhibitions are not located only in the heart of the Kranj cultural district. They are set up as a hybrid – on the street and online, as the changes that turned our lives upside down last year cannot be overheard. They are whispering to us about a new time, pandemic and soon, hopefully, a post-pandemic time when digital reality will be even more ubiquitous. Maybe that’s why we are turning to the touch, softness and warmth that textiles can conjure up.

And such a textile is designed in a series of hand-made unique products by a group of women working under the name Kreativnice. Their inspiration is the city, its history and heritage. Škofja Loka is not only a pleasant place with a medieval view, it is also the site of former workshops of masters of handicrafts and industry. The Šešir factory, once the pride of Škofja Loka, was driven by hands. The hands that created the hats are part of the people who are more important than the machines. Innovative ideas are more important than the cold technology that drives them. Craftsmen were and are the added value of a space. The transfer of knowledge and experience was successful in Škofja Loka.

Kreativnice combine traditional textile techniques with modern design, all inspired by nature. Ladka dyes wool, silk and cotton and prints with plants from the local environment and from her garden. Lili is a designer who, among other things, also researches old techniques of processing and dyeing textile fibers. Silva is a textile designer who creates products on natural looms in neutral colors. When designing, Nina follows the idea of pure thought and simple form, and her home products are delicate and multi-layered. Anja weaves the oldest technique of textile production – felting – with modern design and builds seamless products from fibers.

The contemporary textile center of Kreativnice functions as a creative-working space and sales and exhibition studio, and connects (especially) women artists who upgrade the rich textile heritage with a modern approach.
