Patrick Brandt

Patrick Brandt (GE) was born in 1982 in Quedlinburg, a small town in the Harz region, where he started his artistic path in 1997 within the graffiti-scene. In 2002 he began to engage intensively with painting. Since 2012 he has been developing collaged bas-reliefs. Brandt has a background in design but when it comes to art, he defines himself as an autodidact. He currently lives and works near Berlin. His work has been presented in various groups and solo exhibitions. He is particularly interested in the phenomenon of our information society, which has changed enormously since the first half of the 20th century due to the mass media and their influence on cultural and norm concepts. As a reaction to this, Brandt detaches fragments of old newspapers from their original context of meaning and reassembles them in abstract, extended collages. By breaking up the context, a different view of time, its speed and the meaning of information is made possible by means of free association.
