During his residency in Kranj, the artist developed a series of works that explore materiality, the passage of time, and the subtle choreography of natural elements. His practice moves between the found and the formed, between the power of geological processes and the precision of human intervention. He draws inspiration from the environment in which he creates—the physical properties of materials, their symbolism, and the surrounding climate and weather conditions that shape his creative process. While in Kranj, Rino constructed three sculptures that combine river pebbles, fractured stone blocks, fragments of collapsed architectural elements, metal rods, ceramics, and woolen thread.

Rino Banko works in the field of visual arts, sculpture, and object design, using traditional materials such as stone, wood, ceramics, and metal. His core interest lies in questioning the limits of these materials and examining the relationship between matter and form. He collaborates actively with the Quark Center for Ceramics at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka, where he researches digital modeling and 3D printing in ceramics. He also works as an assistant at the Department of Sculpture, where he earned his master’s degree in 2018.

Rino Banko is also the designer of the Eta awards—BIEN 2025 prizes that support artists under the age of 29 who stand out with exceptional work in handcrafted textile techniques.
