BIEN 2021 in Radovljica

In Radovljica, the projects of the biennial, which deal with bees, nature and communities through the medium of textiles, open on World Bee Day.
Radovljica Municipality Museums are presenting two projects as part of the biennial, which will be on display between 20 May and 14 August. The first, Dream Beehive, is signed by a group of 1st year students of the Faculty of Design. In the subject of Textile Techniques, old Slovenian hand-made textile techniques were revived. Through research into different ways of weaving and entwining textile and non-textile materials, abstract textile patterns have thus emerged. The specimens, captured in a hexagonal wooden frame, which together form honeycombs in the hive, will be on display in the atrium of Šivec house.
The Contemporary Textile Hub Kreativnice is also presented in the old town of Radovljica. Nina Vastl Štefe, Anja Musek, Lili Panjtar, Silva Horvat and Ladka Peneš connect textile art and the community with works from FOREST and RIVER. In the FOREST, the community of trees is at the forefront. The artists mosaically intertwine various natural materials, textile techniques of weaving, felting, quilting, printing, dyeing with plants, spinning and crocheting. Another textile work of art RIVER combines the work of textile designers and emphasizes clean design and simple lines. The starting point for the creation of RIVER textile installations was forty years old woven woolen goods. Rivers connect places, cities, countries. Bridges and footbridges connect different sides of riverbeds. At the same time, working together to create common ideas connects, opens and develops contemporary communities.
