Children Workshop with Jakup Ferri (Prishtina/Amsterdam)
Jakup Ferri, a renowned contemporary artist from Kosovo is coming to Kranj. A cultural center Layerjeva hiša will host the artist, whose works were exhibited at the The Kosovo Pavilion at the Venice Biennial 2022. He will host a creative workshop for the kids of Kranj. The collaboration between the kids and the artist is announcing the collaborative presentation of children’s and Ferri’s artworks at the Textile Art Biennial BIEN 2025.
The workshop will be held in Albanian and Slovenian language. The project emerged from BIEN and Layer House's vision of fostering an inclusive community.
Jakup Ferri (Prishtina/Amsterdam) is a contemporary artist and professor at Prishtina Art Academy and guest advisor at Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. In his formative years as an artist, his inspiration stemmed from the fact that Prishtina, where he grew up, was often invisible and isolated from the Western art world. This experience influenced his work, shaping both its content and appearance. He is interested in outsider artists, folk art, and naive-oriented painters. He incorporates various handmade materials such as blankets, carpets, and glass in his art practice. He sees immense value in pieces that are handcrafted, including textiles, appreciating their authentic, distinctive, and unpolished character.
