Embroidery as a metaphor for coexistence and co-creation

Gradient is a completed series of three tapestries, which Felle made herself, gradually, over a period of 6 years. It is a mimetic attempt to embroider a gradient and approach a "perfect" computer-generated image. Felle approaches each tapestry with a different method: observation, counting, measuring. Due to "human" factors and the characteristics of the medium, achieving the "perfection" of the algorithms, as well as the repetition of equality, is almost impossible.

Katja Felle expresses herself primarily through painting and media art. She explores, stores, appropriates and transforms visual references she collects from the world of media with the aim of creating new images and forms. She is interested in the content that people consume and share, as well as the transformation of visual material and its meaning according to the context in which it is situated. The artist also works in the field of textile art, she is mainly interested in weaving and embroidery, their historical and social context. It focuses on the question of how to transfer the techniques of traditional textile production into the context of contemporary art. In 2022, she received a bronze award at the 17th International Triennial of Tapestry in Łódź, Poland, for her multi-year author’s project Ustavi-Zašij-Ponastavi.
