ReThread 2026: Arts and Sites

The second edition of the ReThread programme, taking place from Thursday, 28 May to Sunday, 31 May, offers a retreat into an intimate dialogue between textile, landscape, and ourselves. Stitching and other textile techniques will be used as a medium for recording the environment, inhabiting space, sketching inner impressions, and creating diary-like traces of time and place. The programme builds upon the activities of the Textile Art Biennial BIEN and its WellBIEN platform, which explores the effects of intertwining textiles, and nature, as well as the influence of the environment on creative processes.

We are delighted to announce Dr Claire Wellesley-Smith, internationally recognised textile artist, geographer, academic researcher, arts-and-health practitioner, and author of the influential and widely reprinted books Resilient Stitch (2021) and Slow Stitch (2015). She will guide us on a journey with a small piece of cloth and a needle in our hands, attuned to the rhythm of breath and the presence of our steps. We will focus on observing the environment, tracing marks of history, and sensing the constant transformations within place and within ourselves. Her workshop invites reflection on how we respond to place and how we perceive ourselves within the places that surround us.

A group of three practitioners — Tea Pristolič (architect), Editta Dulič (textile and fashion designer), and Barbara Brinovec Pribaković (textile craftswoman and psychologist) — invite participants into a process of creation through materials, gestures, and relationships, where we will explore both our inner and shared worlds. Through this process, a temporary, living space will emerge, built, transformed, and animated through individual and collective contributions. The circle, as a symbol of wholeness, will establish a safe and supportive shared space in which the creative process becomes a form of care and dwelling.

The programme will be enriched by supportive activities led by forest therapist Matija Samec, who will guide participants through practices of observation and movement in nature, and by ReThread curator Jasmina Ferček, whose concluding creative reflection will enable the group to gain deeper insight into their experiences through diverse artistic expressions.

The four-day programme includes 27 hours of activities. Please see the “Schedule” tab below for the detailed timetable.

Mentors will use English, with Slovenian translation provided if needed.
