Author's research of spaces under clothing

Created project is the author's research about spaces that are located under clothing and between clothings in relation to skin or body. Therefore a human-being consciously enters spaces that it is not aware of.

The spaces of encounter of the textile with the body under the dress are the result of exploring the relations of clothing and man in space. With the diploma thesis, the author tried to outline the spaces that are created when we dress and the layers of clothes form different three-dimensional formations with each other and in relation to the body. Through research and experiments, he tried to get closer to the body and confront it with spaces that he is not aware of, but surrounds him on a daily basis. By deconstructing jackets and shirts, he created spaces in metal constructions with different anatomies into which a person can partially enter, or merely observe and communicate with them with his hands or feet. Thus, he is one hundred percent confronted with the elements that surround him on a daily basis, but he never takes the time to think about them. All of a sudden, he is placed in front of the lining of his jacket, the collar of his shirt, the light that seeps through the dress to the viewer in a reversed way and illuminates his face.

Žiga Brezovnik completed his studies in clothing and textile design at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana. Creating with textiles allows him to express himself as a medium with which he can speak. He is aware of all the pollution that textile production causes, so he tries to be as sustainable as possible in his work. Through his research, he seeks the point of coexistence of man and the textile surface.
