Žiga Brezovnik: The concert of the mute guitar

The concert of the mute guitar wonders about the essence of existence or coexistence and the function deprived of it and thus contrast potentiated. As a result, the guitar turns into an object without sound, into a synthetic landscape of his own imagination, on which Žiga Brezovnik plays as a textile artist according to his notes. The author was mainly interested in the multifaceted nature of the concept. There may be countless interpretations, but the landscape draws attention to the issue of death and suffocation. Does suffocation of sound necessarily also mean inability to speak, message, death? Also, the textile that warms us and hugs us around the neck can also suffocate us at the same time, mainly due to reckless hyperproduction. As a result, the red thread of the project is the remains and scraps of textile factories that would otherwise roam in the bin. The installation is placed in a white corner, next to the wall, in front of the fact. Between the contrast of black and white, there is a partially revealed body of the creator, which stands out from the heights of whiteness and draws attention to the presence of man. A man who has all the strings in his hands, but is helpless in his inability to play. Thus, an instrument surrounded by a textile scarf pushes a man away and assigns him a third, side role. The birch in the background, without leaves, suffocated, sets the stage for a silent event. In the background of the installation are also textile assemblages, also created from waste textiles. The uneven positioning of the assemblages is reminiscent of the debris of something ancient, sincere, primitive, pure, textile. Accompanying sound is the music of textiles, which subtly, slowly and persistently muffles the sound of guitar strings.
