Technology is deeply embedded in contemporary artistic practices, and these practices increasingly critically reflect on its omnipresence. Media art provides tools for better understanding the impact of technology on life in the present and the future. More and more artists are using cutting-edge technology for research purposes. With a range of new tools, they seek innovative ways to engage critically, understand the world, and envision the future. In this year’s edition of the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Electronic Arts workshops, first-year students explored the most effective hardware and software tools for generating interactive visualizations in connection with light-responsive interfaces triggered by wearable e-textile objects. Students created and connected e-textile objects with LED lights, a light-responsive circuit controlled by an Arduino microcontroller, and visualizations on the theme of the Sun in Processing. They presented the entire project as an installation titled The Sun in the exhibition space.
