This is the sea is a narrative about a place where life is beautiful and peaceful, like gazing at the sea. It is an homage by the author to her late brother, based on his photograph. By translating his work into her own, she has created a space of memory, where the viewer can feel the warmth of the sun’s rays.
Sonja Hillen attended Nieuwe Academie Utrecht from 1999 to 2004, and in 2020, she studied at DIA: Drawing Inventions Academy. The common thread in her work revolves around significant events in her life and the lives of others.
