The ancient element of the tablecloth as a ritual object of gathering and interpersonal dialogue presents embroidery that depicts the life cycle of poppy heads, which gradually dry out and, with the help of the wind, begin their new journey to an unknown destination. The poppy, as a symbol of the dreamlike, is also one of the symbols of the artist’s homeland, Macedonia. In his work, Borjan Litovski explores the relationship between textile and space, as well as between textile and the body. He is active in the field of contemporary textile art, theatre costume design, and scenography.
Borjan Litovski is the recipient of the ETA Award, presented by BIEN to the best work by artists under the age of 29 who stand out for their outstanding creations in manual techniques. “Borjan Litovski reinterprets textile traditions and ritual objects through a contemporary and personal language. By combining traditional handcraft techniques with digital tools, Litovski bridges generations and expands the expressive capacity of textile. The project centered around the embroidered tablecloth powerfully transforms a familiar domestic object into a site of symbolic resonance and shared ritual.” - ETA Award selection Alessandra Tempesti, Lottozero curator.
