Nina Arnuš, a cultural studies graduate and student of art-assisted support, and Anka Pintar, a cultural sociologist and philosophy professor, are particularly interested in how creativity can contribute to positive change. For the past ten years, they have led Breja Preja, a textile community operating within Zavod Tri, which connects creativity with the inclusion of migrant women and fosters intergenerational and intercultural collaboration. In 2024, the creators of Breja Preja developed Krpanka, a traveling exhibition visiting primary schools and kindergartens. In 2023, they participated in the BIEN textile art biennial with Zgodboprejke, and in the summer of 2022, they presented Embroidered Stories at the Loški Museum. Every year on March 8th, they use textile installations in public spaces to highlight the importance of equality and have also organized numerous charitable creative initiatives.
Anka and Nina believe that art is for everyone—each person has the ability to create, express creativity, and find joy in handmade works. Their philosophy emphasizes that the final appearance of a piece is not the most important aspect; rather, the creative process itself and the awareness of what happens during it are key. They organize workshops that combine various textile techniques, movement and making, storytelling through embroidery, crochet with activism, and knitting with mindfulness. Language barriers are not an obstacle, as textiles serve as a powerful medium for communication beyond words. They focus on encouraging those who are picking up a needle or crochet hook for the first time, continuously exploring techniques that are accessible to individuals without prior experience in textile arts. With ongoing education in the field of mental health, they also work with groups that require additional support. Most of their materials come from second-hand sources, allowing participants to create freely without fear of damaging something valuable. Value is created in the moment when material is transformed by hand into a unique, personal piece.
In this workshop, participants will decorate their own T-shirts with embroidery, making them unique and extending their lifespan. All that’s needed is a T-shirt and a yoga mat, as the workshop will take place on the floor. The facilitators will provide all other materials and guide participants through the creative process, ensuring that everyone leaves satisfied with their finished piece. Throughout the session, gentle yoga exercises will be incorporated to support spinal health and overall well-being.
