The ETA Award was announced in 2024 during the opening of an exhibition by Eta Sadar Breznik, one of Slovenia’s most prominent textile artists. Named in her honor, the award also stands for the Exceptional Textile Award. It is presented by the BIEN Textile Art Biennial and will be announced on May 31, 2025, in Kranj, Slovenia. The main goal of the award is to promote handcrafted textile techniques among young and upcoming textile artists.
Works eligible for selection must be created by individual artists or a collective of up to two members, aged 29 or younger, and must showcase exceptional textile handicraft techniques. The first round of selection is conducted by the BIEN 2025 international jury, which selects artworks for the BIEN 2025 exhibition. From this pool of selected works, those that meet the criteria for nomination for the national or international prize will be evaluated, with the final decision made by Alessandra Tempesti (national prize) and Nina Glavič (international prize).
National prize: The Slovenian winner will be awarded a one-week residency in Prato, Italy, at the Lottozero Textile Laboratories.
International prize: The non-Slovenian winner will be awarded a two-week residency in Kranj, Slovenia, at the Layer House residency center.
