Reflections of a past that is not our own

Helena Tahir, a Slovenian contemporary artist, traces her father’s long-concealed past in her work The Last Sector II, she traces back her father’s long-concealed past, weaving it with her reflections on her first visit to his homeland, Iraq—a place he left behind due to a repressive regime and to which he hasn’t been able to return to since. The project’s title is a direct reference to a particular section in Sadr City, the impoverished suburbs of Baghdad, where her family resides. Helena Tahir was born and grew up in Jesenice.
