The Trajna collective produces handmade paper yarn from Japanese knotweed, which serves as the basis for Kristi Komel’s handwoven work. The paper textiles in Paper Whisper symbolize lightness and airiness, offering new perspectives on invasive plants. A key concept in the artist’s practice is sustainability, which she recognizes has its limits; this is why she is turning towards a regenerative approach and the exploration of alternative materials, among which invasive plants have also captured her interest. Kristi Komel is a textile designer who integrates local stories and sustainable considerations into her work. She is passionate about discovering new materials, exploring finishing techniques, and reviving traditional methods from the past.
