The textile sculpture is a depiction of the artist's inner world in a form of creative journaling. She illustrates her thoughts on tangled hands symbolising her mental and emotional body, as a way of accessing hidden parts of herself.

The global pandemic and the isolation that followed directed the artist to turn inward. Discovering the tangled thoughts and tracing the subconscious gave her the opportunity to explore and heal the newly formed fears of the uncertain future, but also the deeply rooted ones formed in the childhood. She is doing that through the means of textile sculpture which she uses as a form of journaling and meditation where the hands symbolize a channel between the author’s hidden and intangible side and its materialization through the creative process. The tactility, the sound and the visual perception of the fabric keep the artist in a meditative state in which she is able to access hidden parts of herself. She then transmutes them as illustrated and written codes, inviting the observer to also explore himself through them.

Nikolina Krstičević is a master’s student in textile design at the Faculty of Textile Technology in Zagreb. She has presented her work at various exhibitions, created as a costume designer and received the Dean’s Award for Achievement during her bachelor studies.
