Trees and light play a significant role in the author’s tapestries. Through her artwork, she aims to achieve a final result that resembles a photograph, enriched with the added value of textile materials. Light of Winter is a textile portrait of a profound, spiritual moment that the author experienced in her birthplace, when sunlight pierced through the trees and a coloured mist appeared above the river rapids.
Soile Hovila completed her studies in Art Education and Art History at the University of Jyväskylä in 1998, and obtained her master’s degree in Art and Design from the University of Helsinki in 2002. She has showcased her work in various group exhibitions both domestically and internationally.
