The work Concealed speaks about social expectations, women’s rights, and mythology. Nowrose argues that as women, we are compelled to showcase our beauty, and in this pursuit of beauty, we often strip away our individuality, stories, and traumas. In the end, we lose ourselves and merge with a fabricated image. We become anonymous even to ourselves, while our identities remain concealed. Habiba Nowrose's artistic practice simultaneously encompasses photography, montage, and image-making. She frequently leans towards creating portraits, as it provides her with space for various interpretations. Her portraits are the result of thorough preparation. In her artistic process, she carefully records objects, colors, patterns, and locations that continuously attract her. These elements play a fundamental role in the creation of the image.
Habiba Nowrose completed her graduation in Women & Gender Studies from the University of Dhaka in 2012. Later she finished the Professional Program on Photography from the Pathshala South Asian Media institute in 2014. She is currently teaching Visual Anthropology in Pathshala South Asian Media Institute. Her work has been exhibited in several galleries in Asia and beyond. Series Concealed was a finalist for the 2018 Invisible Photographers Asia Art Awards and the Samdani Art Award 2020.
