TEXTILE COMMUNITIES: Social Impacts and Psychological Benefits of Creating with Textiles

Lecture and Workshop

Jasmina Ferček and Zala Orel participated in the Nordic Art Therapy Conference. During their lecture, they presented their research on the social impacts and psychological benefits of creating with textiles.

Following the lecture, they organized a hands-on workshop to create a short-term textile community. In the workshop, participants used kitchen towels as canvases to illustrate their memories.

The project is carried out in partnership by two non-governmental organizations, Carnica Institute from Kranj and Oloop Institute from Ljubljana, both Slovenia. The program’s goals include strengthening knowledge and practices among individuals from non-governmental, research, educational, and caregiving environments; informing policymakers and the public about the beneficial effects of group manual textile creation; filling the gap in researching the social significance and effects of textile creation as psychosocial support at the Slovenian and international levels.
