The result of a student architecture workshop on the topic of programming the architectural pavilion built by Marjan Šorli and Urška Ogorevc in 1953, located by the horticultural garden in Kranj, are three programming visions that build upon the establishment of the original architectural design of the pavilion and programmatically expand the field of operation of the Horticultural Society.
The first vision proposes activities dedicated to the preparation and consumption of tea, herb drying, the sale of seeds, bulbs, teas, and unique ceramics. Transforming the pavilion into a tea pavilion provides a space for contemplation in the Horticultural Society’s garden, and with new content, promotes its activity.
The second one envisions transforming the building into a book pavilion with an exhibition space where visitors can borrow books on horticulture and architecture. This will connect reading culture with spatial culture and enable social gatherings around books, like a book club with organized events.
The third one envisions an opportunity for various educational activities and community workshops with a smaller exhibition space, where the surrounding residents of different generations can engage in various handicrafts both outside and inside the pavilion, thereby connecting the local community with the Horticultural Society.
Each of the three visions offers a unique approach to the further renovation of the pavilion, a neglected architectural heritage located by the Prešeren Grove.
