12-inch Collage Art – The Vinyl Covers

12-inch Collage Art – The Vinyl Covers

Illustrated sleeves had been standard since the arrival of LPs in the 50s. What started just as commercial teaser became one of the most exciting visual mediums of its time and, in many ways, a cultural statement. Collage, photomontage and assemble images have been part of this process, notoriously, since the adventure of Sgt Pepper Lonely Heart Club Band from The Beatles. In recent years, with the renaissance of the vinyl, more collage artists have been working with musicians and record labels to create some of the most exiting visual references in pop culture. This exhibition shows a selection of iconic and influential albums sleeves as well as the new generation of artists and graphic designers who use collage and assemble images in their process to create record covers.
