WHAT IF … LAYERS OF IMAGINATION TOOK PLACE IN THE LAYER HOUSE?
The Layer House Gallery, Kranj
July 5 – August 14 2018
Artists: Claudio Beorchia, Carniollus Brut, Giorgos Chronis, Barbara Demšar, Urška Mazej, Kai Holland, Simone Karl, Lane
The KAOS Festival invited eight artists to participate in a residency and to actively co-create the festival program. The authors from Slovenia, Germany, Greece and Italy will collectively create and carry out the side-events programme from the 1st to the 6th of July.
The aim of the festival central exhibition that will take place in the Layer House and which involves several artists is to try to demonstrate the contemporary collage as an artist form which permeates several types of creative expression, uses its own well known principles, but is influenced by diverse backgrounds and inspirations coming from the creator’s reality. The collective exhibition is characterised by a large range of art and thematic approaches to collage making. On the one hand, the artists take into account the material characteristics of the collage techniques and the references of their predecessors, on the other hand; they explore the options of contemporary interpretation of the over 100 years old artistic practice.
Throughout painting or digital processing of material, assemblage and photography the artists reveal their mental track of emotions in contemporary society, ironical gestures, and their withdrawal into imaginary landscapes. They stroll freely among numerous interpretations, manifestations and manipulations of contents that a collage can bear.
