In her artworks – using different medias (video, performance sculpture, handicraft, collage, etc.) – Marina Markovic researches the social pressure on women’s bodies, deals with all the painful rituals that women carry out on daily basis, “torturing” their own bodies in order to reach/achieve/get closer to the socially constructed ideals of beauty.
ANOREXIA – The Diary covers the period since the very onset of the condition that began with starving one self and being obsessed with food, followed by hospitalization and recovery. Every day of sickness is documented with drawings, food lists, calorie charts, photos of the body, as well as with the medical records of the six-month treatment of anorexia at the Institute of Endocrinology.
