The seemingly simple process of needle piercing and guiding thread through the textile surface was initially created by hand and later transferred to machine embroidery with the use of computer programs. Alongside students’ mastery of manual work, this primal connection between the hand and the thinking mind, students individually developed a connection with the main theme of this year’s biennial – the sun. They added a series of uniform machine embroideries on formatted white fabric to complement their individual sketchbooks and hand embroideries. These machine embroideries, resembling textile leaves, come together in space to form a common composition.
