Those who know how to listen to the wind

Who are the people who still read the signs of Nature, who know the healing power of plants, and who share knowledge from generation to generation? They will be those who know how to listen to the wind, respect the use of fire and live in harmony with the cycles of Nature, to remind us of respect for things that take time, of a knowledge inscribed in the body and soul through practice. Developing an artistic experience involving personal relationships, generational-experience communication, discovering materials and knowing places in a way that encourages and highlights eco-relational concerns was at the heart of Patrícia Geraldes’s artistic residency, during which she lived in Kranj with her son Santiago in May 2025.

Patricia Geraldes collects stories, memories, and rituals, drawing on empirical knowledge, crafts, and customs—natural acts of sharing, resilience, and wisdom. She seeks connection with the ancient relationship between humans and Nature, cultivating intimacy with natural materials and evoking ancestry and sustainability. She works with wool, linen, wicker, and found objects from forests, mountains, and beaches. She is drawn to practices rooted in harmony, care, and respect—between people, communities, and ecosystems—rejecting the notion of Earth as an unlimited resource.

Patrícia Geraldes lives and works in Porto and holds a degree in Painting from FBAUP (Faculty of Fine Art Porto). In addition to her personal research, she has developed artistic residencies. She is co-founder of the CampaNice collective, an independent creation and programming space in Porto, and the artistic director of the Portuguese residency project, Encontros da Primavera, Anthropology, Contemporary Art and Territory in Picote.

The residency is supported by the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists – EFFEA, an initiative of the European Festivals Association (EFA), co-funded by the European Union
