In March, you can join free workshops on upcycling and painting textile patterns. Fashion designer Zala Hrastar will share her knowledge of textile upcycling during a workshop on making hair scrunchies from fabric pieces from the former Kranj textile factory Tekstilindus.
Academic painter Mateja Kavčič will work with participants to paint stylized compositions of textile patterns on paper using natural earth pigments.
Teenagers from diverse social and cultural backgrounds will connect while creating wearable textiles and developing their creativity. Under the guidance of mentor Klara Debeljak, they will be encouraged to think critically about the use of mobile phones and digital socialization.
The April workshops will begin with a workshop on sewing spring pictures. Architect and textile artist Nina Vastl Štefe will teach participants how to create a textile picture from a piece of fabric using cotton threads. This will be followed by the KnjigObjem workshop, where we will sew covers for books, sketchbooks, and journals. Under the guidance of sustainable designer Maja Modrijan (Destilator).
We will conclude the month with a Book Bag workshop. Torba za knjige - z zgodbo iz knjige will be led by Kranj designer Tina Pavlin, where participants will transform their favourite book into a personal visual story.
May creative program will begin with a Frame Weaving workshop led by textile designer Kristi Komel. Participants will learn the technique of hand weaving on a frame and create a small woven piece to take home.
This will be followed by two sessions of the Mini Colorful Upcycled Crocheted Bag workshop, led by Kranj-based artist Maša Pirc. Participants will crochet bags from various textile materials following zero-waste and sustainable crafting principles.
June creative program will begin with the Embroidering Initials: Personalize Your Favorite Garment workshop, led by maker Maruša Cvenkel (Špampek). Participants will learn the basics of hand embroidery, including stitching initials and simple lettering.
This will be followed by the Dyeing Textile Bags with Natural Dyes workshop, led by designer Vita Ivičić, where participants will decorate cotton tote bags using the Japanese shibori technique and dye them with natural turmeric.
We will conclude our spring textile program with the Clothing Repair Workshop, led by Saša Eržen. Participants will learn various mending techniques and the basics of sewing, weaving, embroidery, and felting, helping them extend the life of their garments, refresh them, and create sustainable, personal pieces.
