Artists–in–residence, Layer House and public space |
This year, KAOS art residencies is hosting three local artists who tend to combine collage with other techniques, Eva Mlinar with illustration, Anja Kranjc with sculpture, and Karol Kuhar with sheet metal and plastic.
Eva Mlinar’s exhibition will show collages and illustrations for the book “Vignettes of a Coward” written by Eva Mahkovič and “The Architecture Diaries” created for an exhibition in London. She will also create a mural during the time of her residence – a collage on a part of the wall in front of the local library based on motifs by the painter Marij Pregelj, a famous citizen of Kranj. In her artworks, her recognizable style is infused with contents that she enthusiastically explores, such as old maps, the Middle East and medieval times.
In her Invisibly Visible series, Anja Kranjc creates human figures and using various materials, such as wax, paper, sand and plaster, she shapes bodies that tell stories about the feelings of the individual she portrays. During her KAOS residence, she will build a statue that will be on display in the Layer House cherry garden. This will be her sixth sculptural installation in a public space. Kranjc already received several nominations and awards for her work, including the Prešeren Award as a student (2006).
In his Fragments of a Time, Karol Kuhar builds shapes from sand, sheet metal, plastic and other consumable materials that bear witness to the vicious circle of life. His collages will be on display in the Layer House gallery and outdoors, he will exhibit a large-format collage, a very special door and a large bird watching over Kranj. Kuhar received many awards for his work, most recently the award of the Municipality of Ptuj that purchased his piece at the Ex tempore Karneval (2020).
